Karim is an overly ambitious sad boi from a small town--Los Alamos, New Mexico. He is heavily influenced by film, an evidently vital ingredient in the music he creates using a vintage 2011 MacBook Pro and a cheap USB mic. Karim uses a combination of hip-hop, lo-fi rap, and R&B to manufacture musical stories, both original and adapted. Having spent most of his early years traveling, and attending 3 different high schools on 3 continents, it’s clear why Karim would grow up to believe that he never really belonged in one single place. Frequent listeners to Karim’s work are familiar with the driving force in his music: the aforementioned obsession with film—each song is derived from some aspect of pop-culture. Purposefully, Karim preserves recording imperfections to allow listeners to have a uniquely intimate experience with his stories. This peculiar approach to music is what gives Karim his signature sound.
